Description
This ‘Cousins To The Fire Sari Yarn Ribbon’ is inspired by the vibrant colors of an African bird which is nicknamed “Cousins To The Fire”. I handmade this beautiful yarn from brand new fabrics. I used cotton/ silk/ polyester blend Indian sarees to make this beautiful colorful craft yarn.
I used stripes of different colored ribbons in a systematic manner starting with each unique color like red, orange, chrome yellow, brown, sky blue, teal and black. I meticulously cut these strips with my own hands from long sarees one at a time. These fair trade sari ribbon yarn are made from remnant but new fabric from my collection. That is why sometimes I mention it as recycled sari yarn.

How I made it:
I machine sewed each ribbon to another ribbon. It is sewed using zig-zag stitch with white thread. It took me a lot of time to make it. But I love to know that I made my own yarn & now you will be able to use this handmade creation to make something beautiful.
I have kept the edges of this sari ribbon yarn raw or unfinished intentionally to give it an organic look. I feel it adds a certain mystic & give a wild touch to this art yarn. It gives me a happy feeling just looking at it!
A lil fun info about these birds:

They are attracted to bush fires and hawk around the edges; their Mandinka name (in The Gambia) means ‘cousin to the fire.’ This species occurs across sub-equatorial Africa.
