Spring Cleaning is an act of thoroughly cleaning our home or any other type of personal space. It is a term often associated with the season spring. But more specifically related to keeping things organized, free of clutter, letting go of outdated ideas or beliefs, transforming stagnant energy, winding up unfinished business, destashing & clearing the space from allergens.

The planning part is easy but the physical work involved is overwhelming and exhausting. The result though is immensely fulfilling & satisfying.

I am going to share with you some of my spring cleaning tips, ideas, projects in a series of blogs. Today, I will be talking about how to plan your spring cleaning adventure. Please note that these blogs are written from a crafter’s point of view.

Plan your time:

Remember that you will be carrying on the spring cleaning sometimes for more than a day. Time saved is time earned. Save some time for yourself by planning in advance.

What seems like it will take only a few minutes to clean, might take hours. So add some extra time in your plan for such activities.

Add extra time to sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, spot clean, dust, wash, polish, wax, change, scrub, etc.

When you take a break for some other important chores, make sure that it is a planned one rather than getting lost in wonderland break.

Don’t start by saying you don’t have time. Everyone has 24 hrs. Spring cleaning is totally doable no matter if you have more or less time.

If you get only a few minutes or hours out of work, then plan your free time in such a way that it is utilized in the best way.

Grouping Things:

Plan to clean one area at a time. Begin with a smaller area and move towards cleaning larger areas.

I sort things as per what they are. Whenever necessary, I make sub-divisions like wearables, jewelry, toddler toys, craft supplies – crochet, paper supplies, etc.

“Surround yourself with the things you love. Discard the rest.” – Kate Spade

Prioritize your work:

Do not start spring cleaning on a whim. Give priority to what is important to you and plan accordingly.

I give importance to pattern writing. So my priority would be to organize my WIP patterns, yarns, finished projects that needs to be written down into patterns.

Visualize your organized space:

Plan and draw an outline of the place where each craft supply will be kept finally. This will give you a clear picture of the resulting look you want of your crafting space.

I have a habit to look for yarn boxes in the south west part of my home. So I would add it in my plan that it will stay in that place again. So, I know where to look for my yarns instead of being dis-oriented.

    1. I have been spring cleaning from the past month, Christine. I do it slowly & steadily, one thing, one day a time. Good luck to you! You know, we have to do it someday or the other. So why not now, right? ;)

  1. Such a great idea to spring clean our crafting spaces! I know my studio was a disaster after so many holiday projects and it felt so good to get everything back where it belongs and organized. I still have yet to do the craft closet but that’s phase two! Thanks for sharing your tips!
