The Making Of The Giant Crochet Hooks
Today, I am going to share my experience about the making of the giant crochet hooks. The other day Raaj, my hubby got a tall, pruned, discarded tree branch for me. I wanted it for 1 of my craft projects. It was about 72+ inches long. I cut it in 3 parts, shaved off the outer layer including the fibers and the bark.
I am going to make yarn out of its fibers. The 3 branches are drying in my balcony. I realized today that I can even make crochet hooks out of it. So here I go… giant crochet hooks in the making now… Yay! to recycling!!!
The hooks are going to be quite big, about 30mm in size. I am quite fascinated with giant crocheting. The best part about it is that it burns the yarn stash quickly. Ha, this way I will have the excuse to buy more yarn soon. :P
I recently made Earth Mandala Rug using a 15mm crochet. It gobbled up 4000 meters of yarn in such a short time. I am very happy with the results. I wanted to use larger hooks. But we don’t get larger hooks here in India. So I thought, I will buy it online later.
Now when I have the wood at hand, I can’t wait to make my own hooks. Wish me luck. :)
UPDATE:
I finally completed carving the hook with a cutter. Here is the before and after pictures.
